Adding an explicit opt-in to receive daily newsletters on registration forms

When a user completes the registration form on the PEI WP site, they are automatically added to the newsletter circulation lists without it being communicated to them. As it stands, there's no mention that becoming a registrant automatically opts a user in to the daily, weekly and breaking news alerts.

The form should carry an explicit opt-in option allowing users to choose whether they wish to receive newsletters, or not

Hi Kevin. Worth your catching up with Paul and Joss as I believe they didn't want this (that it was simply to be part of Ts & Cs that you get our newsletters, and you unsubscribe directly from them if you don't wish to have them).

Thanks for this Amanda. With GDPR coming down the tracks, I believe only having some copy in the Ts&Cs will not be sufficient. As such, I'll set up a meeting with Joss, Paul and also Raj, so we can work out what needs to be done to ensure we're compliant.

Kevin, has this been progressed? Are you guys clear on requirements that can be put into Jira?

PP- can you provide an update on what's required, if anything, after speaking with Kevin/Joss/Paul

Need clarity on GDPR requirements and what PEI need to do to be compliant. Action on Paul Parker

Having spoken with Raj about this, I believe that having users agree to receive newsletters at the point of registration (or verification on the other sites) is not GDPR compliant. Explicit consent needs to be given when opting into newsletters - we have a GDPR workshop on Wednesday 31st Jan where I will raise this and get a definitive answer.

This should be possible and is definitely possible for users within the UK. However, users from other EU countries may require explicit consent and therefore a dev solution may be required whereby an opt in option appears depending on the users country. Bird and Bird will send through a complete country list where this is a requirement

We need to ensure that whatever is specified here is married up with what's going on with the preference centre work on the SCV stream (Oz/Jason leading work on that), and incorporated as needed either within MY PEI or in a separate My Account area.

This is being scoped out as part of the preference centre work.

Jason I assume this can stay in Aha - doesn't need advancing into Jira - if it's covered by pref centre?
